A QUICK INTRODUCTION

Simple rules. Endless possibilities.

You play black and move first. Place a stone on an empty intersection. Stones connected horizontally or vertically form a group.

Liberties: adjacent empty intersections keep a group alive. A group with no liberties is captured. You cannot play a move that leaves your own group without liberties unless it captures opponents.

Repetition: a move cannot recreate an earlier board position (positional superko). Pass when you have no useful moves; two consecutive passes end the game.

Scoring: your stones plus empty territory surrounded only by your color count as your area. White receives 6.5 komi. Remove dead groups through play before passing; this app does not adjudicate dead stones or seki.

The AI lab: these are educational, browser-based opponents, not professional Go engines. Minimax uses a restricted candidate set; MCTS uses short rollouts. Larger boards are more challenging for both.
